Heritage & Artisan Crafts
A shared artisan facility for Echizen Uchihamon, a nationally designated traditional craft with a 700-year history.
A new building was completed in August 2020.
It is common for each craftsman to have their own workshop, but here at Takefu Knife Village, 14 knife-related companies—including forged knife makers and specialists in sharpening— work in a shared 430㎡ workshop, making it a rare industrial tourism facility in Japan.
You can observe various processes from forging to sharpening, and physically experience the powerful sounds, smells, and heat of hammering iron.
In the new building, world-class knives handcrafted by craftsmen are sold directly at producer prices.
