Gōshōji is the head temple of the Izumoji-ha branch of Jōdo Shinshū Buddhism. Founded in the first year of Tenpuku by Shinran Shōnin in Izumoji, Kyoto, it was relocated to its current location during the Keichō era. It is said to be one of the four main temples of Echizen. The impressive sight includes the keyaki-wood and red-tile mountain gate, along with the Goeidō, Amidadō, kyōzō (sutra repository), and bell tower. When you step into the spacious temple grounds, you naturally feel a sense of solemnity. The temple is also known for having been visited by the couple Tekkan and Akiko Yosano, who left 14 poems here. Every year, on August 27 and 28, the temple’s *Oyori attracts many worshippers.
