“Kitago Station” opened in Taisho 13 (1924) as Fukui Railway’s “Nishi-Takefu Station.”
The building, which retains the atmosphere of the Taisho era, was selected as a filming location for a mobile phone company commercial in 2010 and attracted considerable attention.
Subsequently, due to aging, the station was renovated, and a new station building that balances a retro appearance with functional design was completed in 2012.
The following year, it was designated as a national tangible cultural property.
The gallery inside the station building exhibits about 120 valuable railway-related materials and the history of Fukui Railway, and events organized by the local community group “Kitago Station Lovers Association” are also held there.
