The Sōtō Zen temple “Otanjōji,” located in the quiet mountain area of Shōda-chō, Echizen City, is a training temple where monks devote themselves to daily practice.
This temple is commonly known as “Cat Temple” and takes in cats with nowhere to go; currently, about 30 cats live there.
At the free “Sunday Zazen Session” held every week, various forms of communication take place—such as tea gatherings where participants interact with the deputy head priest and training monks, as well as yoga and sign language classes—all with the hope that it may serve as “a chance for the heart to be reborn.
