Kongoin

Sightseeing Spots

Kongoin, founded in 1433, is a Soto sect temple that was relocated to its current location in 1610 by Tomimasa Honda.

Inside the temple grounds, various Buddha statues are enshrined to soothe the hearts of worshippers. Among them are the golden Kongō Hishin Kannon, the "Buddha Foot Stone" for venerating the soles of the Buddha's feet, the "Ascetic Shakyamuni" for introspection, the "Daijo-bu Jizō Bosatsu" encouraging passersby on their path, and the "Tachinaori Fudō Son" standing tall.

At the “Takefumitamamatsuri,” held every year on July 15, the traditional custom of a sending-fire ritual is carried out by the light of 6,000 candles to honor ancestors.
