Sightseeing Spots
The shrine consists of an *Okuno-in at the top of the mountain and a satomiya (village shrine) built at the foot of the mountain. The Okuno-in is mentioned in the “Engishiki Shinmeicho” (926). The main hall and worship hall of the Satomiya Shrine were built with the finest architectural techniques of the late Edo period. The intricate roof, resembling countless waves converging, and the magnificent carvings adorning every corner are truly breathtaking. In 1984 (Showa 59), the shrine was designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan due to its historical significance and architectural beauty. Kawakamigozen, the goddess of paper, is enshrined at Okamoto Shrine.
