“Manyokan” was renovated in connection with the Manyoshu, which has deep ties to Ajimano.
Ajimano is known as the setting of the tragic love poems between Nakatomi no Yakamori and Sano no Otogami no otsome, with 63 poems from the Manyoshu connected to the area. Echizen City also appears as the setting in poems exchanged between two representative Manyoshu poets, Otomo no Yakamochi and Otomo no Ikenushi.
Inside the facility, visitors can view Manyoshu poems related to Ajimano, as well as selected works from the publicly solicited “Love Poems.”
Reprinted paintings by Uemura Shoen depicting Teruhi-no-mae holding a flower basket is also on display.
