Kakyo Park

Sightseeing Spots

Kakyo Park, renowned as the setting of Zeami’s Noh play Hanagatami, is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot where around 1,000 cherry trees bloom in full glory each spring.

Within the park stands the Usuzumi-zakura, a natural monument of Fukui Prefecture estimated to be over 600 years old.

According to legend, it was left as a keepsake by Prince Ōhodono-Ōkimi—later Emperor Keitai—for his beloved Teruhi-no-Mae. Over time, the blossoms gradually faded in color, which is said to be the reason it came to be known as the Usuzumi-zakura. (Pale Ink Cherry Tree).

The park is also adorned with azaleas and hydrangeas, and in autumn, the vibrant colors of the changing leaves create a stunning scene—allowing visitors to enjoy the beauty of nature throughout all four seasons.
